With typical water visibility of 30 meters or more, and access to dive sites famed for incredible and rare diving experiences with devil mantas, whales and rare sharks. El Hierro has earned a well deserved reputation as a top tier scuba diving holidays location, and the best overall in the canary islands.

We offer a wide range of PADI diving courses and daily boat departures to some of the most beautiful dive sites in Europe. We specialise in tailored packages for individuals and groups that include: diving, accommodation, car rental. And key to many of our clients, and unqiue to our center here, all our staff are fluent in English, the owner and manager is Irish. Your dive briefings, courses and bookings will be all be completed in English.

From our Dive Centre in La Restinga, located on the southern tip of El Hierro, we dive more than 20 dive sites which are all located between 5 and 20 minutes by boat. The Mar de las Calmas Marine Reserve is protected from the prevailing Northeast winds and is perfect for year round diving with visibility as much as 40m at times and rarely less than 20m. The marine reserve zone gets the least rainfall and most sunshine in El Hierro.

The underwater landscape was formed by volcanic activity and very close to shore the bottom drops to more than 300m. The seabed is covered in rocky formations such as pinnacles, big drop off's, caves and tunnels.

The dense vegetation on the rocks supports a diverse range of life. Hidden in the many cracks and crevasses you will find Lobsters, Shrimp, Seahorses, Black and Yellow Corals, Anemones and Sponges.

Diving in these crystal clear waters you will often find Tuna, Parrotfish, Groupers, Flatfish, Perches, Angel Sharks, Octopus, Sting Rays and many species of Moray Eels.

Seasonal visitors to the area include Sand Tiger Sharks, Manta Rays, Whale Sharks, Dolphins and Turtles.

Arrecifal was established in 1998 and is now owned and run by Peter from Ireland. During 5 years before purchasing the center Peter dived many times in El Hierro with Arrecifal including training. El Hierro is perfect new diving home due to the excellent all year round diving and beautiful, authentic experience on one of the last untouched Canary Islands.

At Arrecifal we are the only native English speaking center here, and all our instructors and guides and fluent in English. Our focus is on providing a hassle free, fun and safe environment, our experienced and always ready to help team is our strongest asset.

Peter

Peter O Brien - Owner & Manager Arrecifal Diving Center

Born in Dublin, Ireland. Began scuba diving in 2001 and spent much of his diving days in the south west of Ireland, were dive conditions are tough but rewarding for those hardy divers

Peter manages the center, bookings, organizing, captain, instructor and guide when he can get to go

His passion for diving and the sea started from early childhood from his Irish family home on the green shores of south Cork coastline

The sea is his place of meditation, a feeling of home and continous discovery.

Selman

Our Venezuelan amigo completes our team, his family is originally from El Hierro, started diving and training with our good friend and former owner Carlos. He is training for his instructor title, and is a captain and guide here at Arrecifal.

Selman is also bi-lingual, and brings the fun and buzz of diving to all our groups, always enthusiastic and full of energy, he keeps a close eye to tailored safety needs of our clients

From our Dive Centre, located in La Restinga on the Southern tip of El Hierro, we run daily boat trips and PADI courses all year round. We cater for all levels from beginners just starting out to experienced divers looking for something special. We dive more than 20 dive sites less than 15 min boat ride from La Restinga. Why is El Hierro diving considered the best diving in the canaries? With no large commerical activity and very few large ships passing, there is little to disturb our large pealagic visitors, combined with over 20 amazing dive sites all within easy reach of our dive centre at La Restinga. From the world famous volcano & pinnacle "El Bajon" to "El Desierto" home of the friendly 40 year old Grouper "Pancho".

Our 7.5m Bombard Explorer RIB can reach all the site in less than 15 minutes. All sites within the Marine Reserve have permanent bouys, these sites are restricted to no more than 10 divers plus guides at any one time.
